Can I give the Optimal Health Systems products to my children?

Not only can you, but in most cases, you should! Often the digestive systems in young children are not mature enough to assimilate many of the foods they eat, so they do not get all of the nutrients they need. Many children, particularly teenagers, eat mostly processed and nutrient-deficient foods. For children, we recommend the Optimal 1 Digestion, Optimal 2 Vitamin/Mineral/Antioxidant, and Complete Nutrition.

How much of the Nutritionals would you give to a two year old, a four year old, an eight year old?

We cannot give an across the board statement about dosage amounts. Nutrition does not work as a precise, scientific, milligram per pound process. It depends on the situation, but a basic rule of thumb would be that anyone eight years and older would take the recommended adult dosage. Anyone younger than eight years of age, would take ? that amount.

What is bioavailability of minerals?

Bioavailability refers to how available a mineral element is for use by cells in the body. This is where mineral supplements vary widely. While some supplements have a high trace mineral count, those minerals are not chelated and so are not absorbable and usable in the body.

Why are our products more bioavailable?

Because the Opti-Blend? delivery system breaks nutrients down to their most bioavailable level.

Why are whole food vitamins important? What is the difference between synthetic and whole food vitamins?

Whole food vitamins, such as those included in Optimal 2 (Vitamin/Mineral/Antioxidant) affect the body and are absorbed and used just as the natural foods would be. Whole foods and whole food complexes are entire composites, not fractions of vitamins. Synthetic vitamins are not really vitamins at all. They are only fragments of vitamins. Pulling apart the constituents that make up a food, called fractioning, changes the food into a non-food. These non-food fractions are now foreign and unrecognizable to the body, and actually create drug-like reactions.

Why is the flora in our Digestion not refrigerated?

Bacteria require four conditions in order for them to go through their life cycle: temperature (warmth), moisture, light and oxygen. If they are denied these activating factors in their environment, they can be maintained (without degrading and dying off) for a very long time in a state of suspended animation. Careful attention to moisture, light and oxygen allow for some variance in temperature, which means it is possible to have long-life flora products at ordinary room temperature. Optimal Health Systems uses a patented true freeze dried process that keeps the moisture content below 1%. This is an expensive process and most flora products on the market have a higher moisture content and, therefore, have to be refrigerated.

Dr. Khem Shahani, leading expert in flora replenishment and member of Optimal Health Systems Professional Advisory Counsol has spent many years researching and developing hardy strains of bacteria referred to as the University of Nebraska Stabilization. It involved doing a selective breeding process, over generations and generations of bacteria, isolating very hardy strains that would survive temperature, stomach acid and the bile from the gallbladder. Dr. Shahani also studied factors that would sustain the life of bacteria such as vitamin mixtures and has developed a culturing medium that enhances the stability of the organism to that it is able to survive hazardous factors.

What is the chelation process?

The chelation process which we utilize has been researched and patented by Albion Laboratories. It involves bonding amino acids to minerals by a proprietary technique. It has been proven to result in the highest assimilation and cellular utilization. Optimal Wellness Systems has developed a nutrient delivery system (Opti-Blend?) which employs the research of Dr. Harvey Ashmead and Dr. Edward Howell and assures the best possible cellular utilization of Optimal Health Systems products.

How are vegetable enzymes made? What are they grown on?

The fermentation process uses a whole grain rice base and organisms such as: Aspergillus oryzae, spergillus niger, and Bascillus subtillus. The fermentation process produces a rich broth containing enzymes. This broth is filtered five to six times to remove all traces of the rice base and organism bodies. The results are a very pure protein solution, which is rich in enzymes. This solution is then freeze dried to produce a stable concentrated enzyme powder.

Why is an enzyme delivery system necessary?

The body s natural processes call for coordinated enzymes and minerals to be present in order for nutrients to be delivered to the cells of the body. With Opti-Blend?, all we re doing is providing the same balance.

What happens if an enzyme supplement does not have a delivery system?

Without a delivery system, enzymes work less efficiently. If enzymes are taken in high dosages over a long period of time without a system like Opti-Blend?, there can be leaching of minerals from body stores.

What is an enzyme?

Enzymes are energized protein molecules, biological units of work. They have been called the life force because they catalyze and regulate nearly all biochemical reactions within the human body, including energy production, metabolism, respiration, nerve function, reproduction, immunity, and digestion. Simply put, without enzymes, life would cease. Individuals who are enzyme deficient are subject to disease and degeneration.

Are all enzymes the same?

No. There are thousands of different enzymes which regulate bodily functions. Enzymes have been grouped into three categories: metabolic enzymes, digestive enzymes and food enzymes. Metabolic enzymes work within the cells to regulate such activity as detoxification and energy production. Digestive enzymes break foods down and make them available for use in the body. Food enzymes are those which are naturally present in raw foods which perform the first stage in the breakdown of that food.

Can't I get enzymes from the food I eat?

Yes, most definitely, but only if that food is not cooked or processed. Modern food processing procedures destroy nearly all of the naturally-occurring enzymes in food. With the prevalence of cooked and processed foods, the average American diet is essentially devoid of food enzymes. We certainly recommend that you take in as many raw foods as possible, but even then, the raw foods contain only enough enzymes to digest that food. We know that most of your foods, particularly meat and fats, are cooked and processed. Nutritional enzyme supplements should be taken to assist in the digestive process and relieve the stress placed on your body.

Are all enzyme supplements comparable?

No, all enzyme supplements are not the same. Only our supplier specifically produces enzymes for use with foods. Other enzymes which are on the market may utilize enzymes which are intended for making cheese, removing strains, or some other industrial or processing use only. Not only have we used the highest quality enzymes available, we have carefully studied each enzyme to discover what it needs to be fully active and then have included those co-factors to ensure maximum enzyme activity in these exclusive formulations.

How do I know if I need enzymes?

If you eat cooked or processed foods, you need enzymes.

Do any of OHS products contain Coenzyme Q10?

Yes, Optimal Longevi-D is a combination product containing Vitamin D3 and CoQ10. The CoQ10 is provided in the reduced form (Ubiquinol), which is preferred.

Are you familiar with "Cholacol" Bile Salts Do we have an alternative to this?

YES We are very familiar with “Cholacol” and we are not a fan of this product at all. It contains bile salts from a dead cows gall bladder. This is a huge problem. Basically you are taking a product that is putting in an animals bile salts. Two problems; The first problem is that the gall bladder doesn’t release bile salts into the intestines to aid in fat digestion until there is a specific need and when it does release its salts, it does it very specifically to the amount that is needed. If it releases to many salts, their will be a huge increase of Gall stones created and major problems. (this is why they tell you not to use this product if you have had gallstones or are worried about getting them). The other problem is that the salts from a bovines gall bladder are different because of the different diets and digestive systems of a cow.

If you are trying to help a patient that has had their gall bladder removed or one that has a fat digestive issue, then you need to recommend pure plant enzymes that are focused specifically on that issue. OHS has a product called Optimal Fat/Sugar that is created to target this problem. The Lipase enzymes and specific minerals that are needed to break down fats are in this formula in large amounts. There is also some specific fat emulsifiers in the form of fatty acids that help break down undigested fats in the bowel and bloodstream. You will be able to prove the effectiveness of this formula by testing gall bladder function or you can monitor blood lipid profiles. The blood lipid profile will favorably change showing that less bad cholesterol and triglycerides are forming. This will prove that the formula is being effective at digesting the bad fats.

Are you familiar with "Red Rice Yeast"?

YES Although it is not in our OHS products, it is a good nutrient. As you probably already know, It is made by fermenting a type of yeast called Monascus purpureus over red rice. The research on its ability to block a certain metabolic enzyme and thus reduce cholesterol levels is very good. We have chosen to “DIGEST” the bad fats and through the use of plant enzymes to reduce cholesterol levels but if you have a patient that isn’t responding as fast as you would want with the Fat/Sugar formula, it wouldn’t be a bad thought to get hold of some pure Red Rice Yeast and take it as an additional nutrient in the protocol. The only concern is that quite a few people get stomach pains from taking Red Rice Yeast. I personally feel it could be eliminated with better hydration. Making sure close to a gallon of water with Oxy Pure in it to ensure it is cellular absorption is drank each day should help take care of it.
